Brittany + Charlotte

I cannot believe this little girl is nearly one! My one and only dear niece will be celebrating her first birthday this coming April and I was beyond excited when Brit asked me to capture some photos of just the two of them before she headed back to work.

Funny enough, J and I had a few photos taken of just the two of us by the amazing Mikaela Ruth when J was pretty much the exact same age as Charlotte, at the exact same location. The photos we had taken were so special since it is such a special time of life when your first child is reaching the end of their first year which is full of a whole bunch of firsts. For Brit and Charlotte, it was even more special since Brittany was going back to work the very next day. Although Brit’s job is absolutely amazing (maternity nurse) and she was more than excited to be heading back, she wanted to capture the end of this dear time of her maternity leave.

I couldn’t help but think of my due date just a few months back. As I shared in N’s birth story, J and I took a power walk with Brit and Charlotte that very morning. As we walked along, Brit asked if I wanted a 40-week photo (since I was still unsure as to whether or not I would go into labour). I actually hummed and hawed thinking I was sure I would get around to taking one in the next couple days. But I caved and let her take a photo of J and I (we also goofed around with my phone camera for a few photos later that afternoon as well).

Just a handful of hours later I went into labour and was admitted to the hospital. That photo was one of the last photos of just the two of us before N arrived and I never thought I would cherish it like I do. I never imagined it would mean so much to me, the last moments and hours of that special time, just the two of us. I am so glad I was able to capture a similar memory for Brit and Char.

As always I was honoured she asked me (and no she is not mandated to do so because I am her sister-in-law:p), I am truly always touched when asked. As always these two looked absolutely stunning and we caught one of the first sunny days of what might just be the start of a beautiful summer. Plus the blossoms were blooming like mad making this session more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

Happy 1st birthday sweet baby girl, how dearly loved you are.

Pickering Family

I can not believe I actually found the time to write this post. This week threw a curve ball our way as Sean, my husband, faced his grandfather’s soon passing, attempted to complete his final semester with projects on time, and at the same time help me deal with our sweet boy who came down with a horrible ear infection. This past week has felt like a complete write-off, and at the same time I had one last adorable photoshoot I just could not wait to share with all of you.
So finally, Saturday night and I am excited to be writing this post. I will be very honest though my eyes continue to feel heavy, every few minutes I stop writing and suddenly wake up wondering how long I have been sleeping for. That’s what happens when your baby is up all night for two nights. Guess I am just getting a bit of preparation for baby number two.

Last Sunday, I headed out to Langley to photograph this little family in their home. I just adore these photos and am so glad I got to meet little Jax and his sweet mom and dad.

This session was even more special since these three had yet to have family photos done before. I am so happy they chose me to take these!

Thaddeus Jude

If you have not seen Elyse and Josh’s Maternity Session I photographed back in October you really should check it out. It is was stunning.

I felt like we caught the last of the summer sun and these two were so authentic and candid in front of the camera is made for some amazing photos.

Most of the time clients who book Maternity Sessions also book their Newborn Session with me and it is always something I look forward to. Last Saturday, Elyse and Josh were back home and inviting me over to shoot their in-home Newborn Session. I was so excited to meet little Thaddeus.

Elyse + Josh had some gorgeous natural light in their home which made for outstanding exposure in these photos. I was on cloud nine. Not only that, Elyse pulled out this adorable wool sack that Josh’s mom had made for Thaddeus. I mean really?! Does it get much cuter?!

This was one of those sessions it took all of no time! The light was stunning, Thaddeus pretty much slept the whole time and everything made for a very relaxed session. I cannot thank Elyse and Josh for asking me to capture such a special time in their life!

Congrats you two!

The Birth of Hana

What great day to share this story on the blog.

Over the last 6 months I have been dying to photograph a birth story. I knew it was not super practical for me since not only do I have a family to find a sitter for but I also have stayed pretty consistently busy, which is not helpful when it comes to availability to be on call for a birth that could take days or even weeks past due dates. All that to say I really wanted to give it a shot.

Arianne and I met up at Starbucks a couple weeks before her due date to go over a questionnaire and really just get to know each other a bit. I felt it was really important to connect with my mom just to ensure she felt comfortable with telling anything, especially in the moments she is in excruciating pain, such as realizing she does not want a photographer in the room.  I got the vibe quickly that she could be open with me and also that she was really excited about it.

Arianne was amazing at communicating with me and it was so nice to have her continue to up date me after each sweep and midwife apt. I don’t think I could have asked for a better client for this situation!

Sure enough, a few days before her due date I got a call (after much anticipation that it would be happening that day) that she was 6 cm dilated and would most likely be moving along quite quickly. I rushed over to her home, so excited it was finally happening and that it worked out in such awesome timing!

I have to admit one thing, not only had I never photographed a birth, I actually had never seen a birth in my entire life. Yes, I have a son, but no, I never went into labour. This was brand new, all I had seen was births in the movies. And I will say, Arianne was a CHAMP compared to them! Yes I was told the whole experience might traumatized me but, to be honest it, was the most amazing experience ever to watch. Thankfully, having a sister-in-law who is a maternity nurse definitely helped me through it as well!

I arrived at 9:15pm, and at 11:22am little Hana was born into this world! She was a perfect as they come! She came out with out a peep and she laid on her mama eyes wide open. Welcome little Hana!

Thank you Arianne and Jeff for letting me be part of this amazing time of your life. I am so happy I could capture it for you!

Hana’s first bath, a herbal bath that was so pretty with all the flowers floating in the tub.

Hello Charlotte

Meet little Charlotte. I am pretty fortunate enough to call this baby girl my niece. Just over a month ago I had the pleasure of photographing this little babe while she was still tucked away, warm a cozy in her mama.

On April 10th, 5 days after this little girl’s due date we got a text early in the morning that little Charlotte had arrived. All perfect 7 pound 1 ounce of her arrived early that Friday morning, and funny enough just 20 minutes before little Oaklen, who is next on the blog, arrived into the world as well! Out of all the days, that Friday I had just arrived in Vancouver to shoot a wedding with a friend, bummer! I was so excited and there was no drive like the drive back home that afternoon, all I wanted to do was be at the hospital to meet her!

The next day these two amazing new parents were welcoming their little girl into her new home. I can not explain how loved this little girl is, yes by all of us, but especially by her parents. Danny and Brittany are two of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, and I get to call them family. We are so excited to have our little kiddies grow up together. Ya for new cousins! Welcome to the world little Charlotte!

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13 +14
